The full story behind one of my favourite shoots, reworked with fresh eyes.
I shot these photos with Tiana in my home studio about a year ago. At the time, I loved them — but coming back to them now, with a bit more experience and a new approach to colour, they just hit differently.
I've been revisiting a lot of old work lately. Part of it’s seasonal — I love playing with colour theory and how the mood shifts throughout the year. This autumn, I’ve been leaning into green undertones with some warmth. It just feels right. There’s something about that combination that wraps up autumn’s whole energy in one image.
I’ve also learned a lot since then. The more I shoot, the more techniques I get under my belt. I’ve developed loads of new presets over the past year, and the one I used here — my Green Autumn preset — was made specifically with this kind of edit in mind. Another reason I’m revisiting older shoots is because I want the people I photograph to have the best possible version of their work. I hate the idea of anyone holding onto photos that don’t reflect how far we’ve both come. These aren’t just pictures — they’re part of your brand, your memories, your identity.
I even managed to recover some of the photos I thought I'd lost. So this series is a bit of a tribute — to growth, to creative freedom, and to how much difference a year can make.
Tiana was genuinely such a joy to shoot with.
Some shoots blur together over time, but I remember this one clearly.
We were vibing the whole time — laughing, swapping ideas, trying out different looks. She turned up confident and fully in tune with her own style, which made the whole process flow so naturally.
Tiana’s not just a model (and there's nothing wrong with being just a model, it's a profession I fully idolise...) — she’s also fashion influencer with a really clear voice and aesthetic. Her style leans into that dark feminine space, with goth and emo influences running through it. She’s collaborated with some great brands like @snagtights, @tuttirougelingerie, and @princesslaceboutique, and she’s built a following around being exactly who she is, which I love.
Also, shoutout to her husband, who came along and was hyping her up the entire time. Iconic behaviour.
There’s one shot in this series that really stands out to me. Something about it just works — the light, the expression, the energy. When someone comes into a shoot already knowing their vibe and how they want to present themselves, it makes my job easier. It gives me the space to focus on light, colour, composition — the technical stuff — while they just do their thing.
That said, don’t stress if you’ve never done a shoot before or feel awkward on camera. It’s literally my job to make you feel comfortable. I’ll guide you, direct you, gas you up, and get the best out of you — even if it means going full “shouty New York man” mode to get you into position.
You’ve probably noticed I’ve started posting my shoots in groups of three on Instagram. That’s on purpose. It helps you see more of the session at once — different colours, moods, poses — and it gives my clients a way to scroll through and pick what they like when we’re planning their shoot. Makes life easier for both of us.
This shoot with Tiana is one I’ll always be proud of. It’s not just about the final images — it’s about the energy we brought to the room, the creative freedom, and how we both showed up fully. That’s when the best stuff happens.
